Sweet and Creamy Chai

If you are anything like me every time you go to the grocery store those boxes of premixed Chai that are in the tea aisle haunt you.  I love Chai, especially a really creamy one, but those are loaded with cane sugar and not low carb friendly.  I found Chai tea bags but they're just not the same dunked in a hot cup of water.  Today I thought, by golly, there's got to be a way to replicate that deliciousness at home, and it turns out there is!  It's a little more work than making tea with a kettle, but the results are worth it.

Ingredients
1/2 C heavy whipping cream
1/2 C hot water
2 packets splenda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 drop vanilla extract
1 Chai tea bag (I used Twinings Chai Ultra Spice)

Directions

  1. Add heavy cream, water, splenda, and vanilla to a small saucepan.
  2. Add splenda and cinnamon to cream mixture and stir.  Cinnamon will mostly float on the top.
  3. Unwrap tea bag and cut off the string.  Add tea bag to saucepan.
  4. Heat saucepan over medium high until bubbles just start to form and steam starts to rise off of the surface of the liquid.  Mixture will have darkened slightly in color from the teabag, but not much.
  5. Stir for a few minutes.  When you can smell the Chai, it's done.
  6. Pour in a mug and enjoy!
Making the Chai.  You can see the teabag over on the left.  I just threw it right into the pot!

Update

I made this recipe last night with Vanilla Caramel by Bigelow and it was GOOD!

  2. Thanks! This tea is delicious. I keep a stash of ingredients at my office and make it in the afternoon when I need a snack. Cream has a lot of fats and protein so it actually will keep you full for a few hours.

    2. I haven't but maybe I should. I've tried some other teas by Celestial seasonings and they've all been good so far.
