Also, look at this Gladiolus!  These stems were on sale in the grocery store for $1.99.  Almost all of the buds were closed when I brought them home and bloomed in about two days.  I couldn't believe it.  Normally I never keep fresh flowers in the house unless we are having company because they are such a luxury item/waste of money, but there were too good of a deal to pass on.

  • Dannon Light & Fit Carb and Sugar Control yogurt in vanilla creme: This is my new favorite thing.  I was strolling through the dairy aisle looking at carb counts of different things and I happened to pick up this little gem.  Each cup has just 50 calories and 3 carbs, which makes it the perfect something sweet after lunch or dinner.

Groceries Tuesday, June 19

So many groceries I couldn't fit them into one shot!
  • rotisserie chicken: great low carb meal in a hurry
  • frozen scallops: I usually use about half a bag of these at a time.
  • milled flax seeds: for use in hot flax cereal
  • salad almonds: great way to add crunch to your salad without adding a ton of carbs
  • salad onions: these little onions are crunchy.  You only get about 1 Tbsp per serving, but they are wonderful on top of chicken salad wraps
  • Dole Southwest salad kit: I love this.
  • tomato sauce: I keep this on hand, but tomato sauces can be tricky.  Make sure that you read labels because some can have as many as 14 carbs per half cup.  Yikes!
  • romaine lettuce: another ingredient to keep on hand
  • olive oil: good in so many things- keep on hand
  • Ragu alfredo sauce: I use this to make lots of pasta sauces, including my special sauce.
  • lobster tails: These were on sale for $5.99 each (!) so I bought some.  Going into the freezer for now.
  • big bag of Splenda: I buy the grocery store brand because it's much less expensive.
  • heavy cream: keep on hand.  Little carton goes to work for my coffee and occasional chai.
  • gerber graduates lil crunchies in tomato and cinnamon flavors: Awesome low carb snack when you need a little crunch.  Make sure that you count your serving size.  You can find these in the baby food aisle.
  • Little Puffs: You'll also find these in the baby food aisle.  You get 90 of them for a few carbs, so also a good sweet and crunchy snack.
  • Marzetti Balsamic Vinaigrette: great low carb salad dressing- keep on hand
  • Daisy Cottage Cheese: great low carb snack.  Make sure you get the one that says 4%.
  • Babybel cheese rounds: another great snack with zero carbs.
  • Muenster cheese: muenster melts down really well.  I use it on burgers, in eggs, on salads, etc.

Groceries Monday, June 11

Little grocery trip today.

  • dog bones: we go through these things like crazy.  They are one of the only things that keep the puppies calm.
  • green bell pepper: for use in sausage with peppers and onions recipe
  • red bell pepper: also for use in sausage recipe- would you believe they only had one red pepper left in the store?  It was meant to go into my belly I guess.
  • Johnsonville chicken apple sausage: this stuff is so good.  each sausage has 4 carbs so you can't go crazy and eat the whole pack in one sitting.  I like to use them in recipes.

6/07/2012

Groceries Thursday, June 7

  • large container of heavy whipping cream: this is an important ingredient to keep on hand because it goes in so many recipes.  Also I use it for my coffee every morning.
  • small container of heavy whipping cream: this one goes to work.  I use it there for coffee, and when I make Chai in the afternoons.
  • 2 pounds flank steak: for use in Beef Curry from simmer sauce recipe
  • large yellow onion: for use in Beef Curry recipe
  • broccoli crowns: for use in Beef Curry recipe
  • green beans: for use in Beef Curry recipe
  • 1 block of muenster cheese: cheese is a great low carb snack.  It has a lot of calories, so don't go crazy, but several ounces is fine in the afternoon.
  • 1 block of Colby Jack cheese: normally I never buy reduced fat cheeses, but that was all they had.
  • Classic Curry Simmer Sauce: for use in Beef Curry recipe
  • coconut oil: so many uses I wrote a whole page about them.
  • Stinton cheese with cranberries: this one does have a few carbs because of the berries so make sure you measure how much you are eating.  It's delicious and good for sweet cravings.

6/05/2012

Groceries Tuesday, June 5

  • 1.5 pounds flank steak: for stuffed flank steak recipe
  • mustard greens: for stuffed flank steak recipe.  When you buy these you will feel like you're getting too much, but you're not.  They'll cook way down.
  • cottage cheese: one of my favorite low carb snacks- I keep a container of it at work
  • butter: we use so much butter
  • cherries: berries are a sticky issue.  They are NOT allowed during induction because you are trying to teach your body to quit craving sugar.  You only get about 1/4 of a cup per serving, which is maybe 4-6 cherries.  If you can limit yourself to a handful, go ahead.  If you can't stop after just a few, better not even keep them in the house.
  • whipped cream: delicious and great with sugar free jello
  • paper towels: probably don't need an explanation
  • Frank's Red Hot wing sauce: for use in buffalo wing recipe.  Also a good thing to have on hand.
  • ground flax seeds: these can be used in so many things, but my primary use is in the hot flax cereal that I have most days for breakfast.
  • bag salad: these can also be tricky so make sure that you read labels, especially serving sizes.  The serving size for this is only 1 Cup so you have to count those carbs correctly.  Also, lots of these bag salads have dressings with hidden sugars that can add lots of carbs.  This southwest salad by Dole is a safe choice.

5/31/2012

Groceries Thursday, May 31

  • Keurig iced coffee pods: My Keurig is one of my favorite things in the whole world.  Who doesn't love coffee at the push of a button?  It's like the Jetsons.  Iced coffee is great for summer so I'm glad I was able to find these at the Giant.
  • 2 bags shredded mozzarella: Pizza casserole was so good I decided to make it again.  I'm making two this time.  One will have mushrooms and one will not.  Awesome boyfriend can't stand them and I love them so we each have to have our own casserole.  Isn't that completely ridiculous?
  • pizza sauce: I know that the recipe says to make your own sauce but I didn't feel like it this time.
  • Italian sausage: for pizza casserole
  • cottage cheese: This is a great low carb snack.  The serving is a pretty good size for this brand so it's usually the one I stick to.  If you buy cottage cheese make sure to check the labels!  Some of them have a pretty high carb count and low serving size.
  • green bell pepper: for pizza casserole
  • red onion: for pizza casserole
  • sliced onions: for pizza casserole
  • pepperonis: for pizza casserole
  • Coke Zero: I had eaten a bunch of sunflower seeds in the car and was super thirsty when I got to the grocery store.  I grabbed this to drink while I was in there.
