Low Carb Milkshake

This recipe is awesome for when you are truly in need of something sweet.  That being said, it is also one that needs to be consumed in moderation.  One serving has about 10-12 carbs, which is about half of my daily allowance, so I only have one if I've had an extremely low carb day already.  Another issue with really sweet foods is that they will stimulate cravings for more.  The whole point of abstaining from sugar is to teach your body to quit craving it, and this milkshake will not help with that.  In a perfect world I would cut out all sugar and never eat it again, the end.  But I live in the real world and sometimes I need a fix.  That's when I pull out this low carb milkshake that can be made in chocolate, vanilla, or fruit flavors.

Ingredients
1/2 C carb smart ice cream by Breyer's
1/2 C unsweetened almond milk
1 Tbsp heavy cream
2 packets Splenda
2-4 ice cubes
5 raspberries
squirt of whipped cream (if desired)

Directions
  1. Add ice cream, almond milk, heavy cream, Splenda, 2 ice cubes, and raspberries to blender.
  2. Blend for 1-2 minutes until you achieve a cream consistency.
  3. If milkshake seems to thin, add additional ice cubes and blend again.
  4. If milkshake seems to thick, add additional almond milk.
  5. Once desired consistency is achieved, top with whipped cream and garnish with fruit or cocoa powder if desired.
Notes
  • If you want a chocolate shake instead of a fruit flavor, skip the berries and add 1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder.
  • Not all fruits are created equal.  Berries are generally okay, but tropical fruits like mangoes or pineapple are generally off limits for having too much sugar.
  • The magic bullet blender is the best way to make this drink.  You can pick one up for around $50 and it is completely worth it.  If you don't have one you can still make it in a regular blender.

Make sure you measure.  The serving size is 1/2 Cup, which goes
faster than you think it will.

If you choose to use cocoa powder, measure it as well.  It does have carbs.

This stuff is awesome.  It tastes great and is super low carb.  I put it in
everything- sometimes I just drink it.  Make sure that you buy the
unsweetened variety.  The regular kind has added sugar and carbs.
